Description of Duties:
The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant functions in collaboration with physicians to provide comprehensive care to inpatients and outpatients for the Infectious Disease Department. The individual will also provide care to outpatients and inpatients under the care of the Infection Disease Department. The NP/PA practices and emphasizes excellent care for patients and health promotion, disease prevention and the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic health problems. Duties include assessing health status by obtaining relevant health and medical history, performing physical exams based upon the age and patient history as per the Standard Care plan with a collaborating physician, identifying significant health and medical risk factors; ordering, interpreting and evaluating laboratory test and other diagnostic studies to assess patient's clinical problems and health care needs; and developing a diagnosis by analyzing and synthesizing collected data. In collaboration with the Infectious Disease physician, develops treatment plans, performs diagnostic or therapeutic interventions consistent with certification, law and RPCI privileges. The NP/PA develops patient education plan, participates in medical team rounds, collaborates with nursing, medical and other health care team members regularly to ensure quality patient care, performs admission history and physical, documents progress notes, prepares discharge summaries as required, and assists with and facilitates discharge planning.
The applicant must have a Master's degree in Nursing. In addition, the applicant must possess a license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York, current Nurse Practitioner certification in New York State, and Certification or eligibility for certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or other national certifying body recognized by Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA).
The applicant must have a Bachelor's degree in Physician Assistant Studies; or a Bachelor's degree and completion of a Physician Assistant Certificate Program recognized by the New York State Education Department as well as a License to practice as a Registered Physician Assistant in the State of New York and a Certification as a Registered Physician Assistant by the National Commission for Certification of Physicians Assistants (NCCPA) or other national certifying body recognized by the New York State Education Department.
The preferred candidate will have NYS licensure, at least one year experience as an NP/PA/APP, Infection Disease experience, and Oncology experience.
