Description of Duties:
The Occupational & Environmental Safety Specialist serves as the primary operational professional on the Safety Team responsible for the delivery of a wide range of safety services including, but not limited to, inspections, training, compliance assurance, sampling, and, hazard mitigation. Specific areas include: Hot Work permits, chemical and biological decontaminations, pest control activities, respiratory fit testing, incident investigations, hazardous materials handling, training, environmental sampling, inspections and maintenance of records and documentation. This position works very closely with the many members of the RPCI community including researchers, facility management staff and the rest of the OES department. Excellent communication skills are a must as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time occupational safety and health experience related to general safety, fire protection, accident prevention and/or accident investigation; or an Associate’s degree and the equivalent of three (3) years of full-time occupational safety and health experience related to general safety, fire protection, accident prevention and/or accident investigation. The preferred candidate will have a Bachelor's degree and documented training or full time work experience in the following areas: biomedical research, OSHA General Industry Standards, Employee Training/Adult Education, Hazardous Materials, and NYS Pest Applicator.
