The Public Information Specialist will be responsible for the strategic planning and leadership of marketing, and communications for promoting the New York State Smoker's Quitline services as well as promoting the professional staff as recognized experts and a resource for clinical best practices for tobacco dependence treatment and related health systems change to NYS media outlets, health care professionals/systems, employer grousp and key tobacco control stakeholders. The Specialist will use the unique position of the Quitline, earned media, digital communications and other communication avenues that reach the intended audience(s). The Specialist will work with the Project Director, Outreach Manager and the creative digital communications team to accomplish these responsibilities. Day-to- day tasks will include: gathering testimonials and human interest stories, writing talking points, descriptive pieces, monitoring related media stories, writing and releasing press releases, press conferences, managing a media contact database for NYS, frequent contact to media representatives, developing and managing promotional products (i.e. print, video) related social media content on social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and others, leading communication plan design and execution of several "tobacco holidays" within a year, analysis reporting on media and promotional impact as related to strategic plan goals and identifying strategies for improving process and outcomes.
This is a grant-funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables is required.

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing or a related field and the equivalent of two years of full-time media relations experience.
The preferred candidate will have a Master's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or Digital Media, at least five years in an assistant management or management position in public relations or communications or marketing or digital media at a PR/Communications agency, health related program/organiztion, cause-related program/organization, non-profit agency, experience with Health Systems relations, experience in digital editing, and demonstrated abilities in writing, editing, media relations, media training, social media/web communications management, data analysis, team management, and creativity/imagination.
