Description of Duties:
The Research Associate performs a variety of routine and specialized laboratory tests and experimental procedures for the purposes of original research. The Research Associate will contribute to the larger research efforts of independent investigators and will be expected to manage projects and interact with investigators on a regular and independent basis. Other duties may include assisting the director of the Pathology Shared Resource with the coordination of activities within the Histology Facility, managing project requests, developing and troubleshooting new staining procedures, assisting with inventory and ordering supplies, and assisting with the routine maintenance of laboratory equipment. This Research Associate will be expected to interact with investigators and their staff as well as coworkers on a regular basis. This Research Associate will be expected to be proficient with Microsoft Office and software applications that are used for digital imaging. This position requires attention to detail, the ability to multi-task, excellent attendance, and excellent communication skills.
Applicants must have a Master’s degree and the equivalent of eighteen (18) months of full-time professional research experience in a laboratory, clinical or scientific research environment; or a Bachelor’s degree and the equivalent of thirty (30) months of full-time professional research experience in a laboratory, clinical or scientific research environment.
The preferred candidate will have a strong background in histology and immunohistochemistry, experience with routine immunohistochemical and histological techniques using both frozen and FFPE tissues, proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other software applications, excellent oral and written communication skills, and maintain strong attention to detail. The preferred candidate will be able to work independently to develop laboratory protocols for projects that require laser microdissection and histological or immunohistochemical techniques. The preferred candidate will aslo have experience with fluorescence imaging and in interest in developing novel staining protocols for research projects.
This is a grant-funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables is required.
