Description of Duties:
The Research Associate assists the principal investigator as the Laboratory Manager in the overall Laboratory activities managing the daily operations of the Laboratory and supervises the adherence of all lab members to the established protocols, procedures, and policies. Assists lab memebers with planning specific research procedures, develops and troubleshoots new techniques that have been written up in the literature and proposes alternative experimental procedures to the principal investigator. Sets up, calibrates, and performs routine maintenance on specialized laboratory supplies, laboratory equipment and patient material. May supervise or participate in the technical training of new staff and students in the laboratory, demonstrates basic laboratory techniques to laboratory assistants and technicians, research fellows, residents, and students; reviews research literature for pertinent information and attends conferences and courses to keep abreast of research field. Maintains laboratory inventory and records. Appropriately plans reagent preparation and instrumentation; processes and prepares pre-clinical and clinical samples as needed. Processes blood and tissue samples provided to the laboratory from different studies; collects plasma and blood cells for procedures; extracts cells and other biological material as needed for various research projects. Maintains established laboratory policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety and compliance standards. Performs various experiements, calculates results of research studies and records information appropriately. Prepares written documentation as required by the supervisor and the laboratory; maintains, distributes, analyzes and projects information for required records, reports and statistics as needed.
1. Master’s degree and the equivalent of eighteen (18) months of full-time professional research experience in a laboratory, clinical or scientific research environment; or
2. Bachelor’s degree and the equivalent of thirty (30) months of full-time professional research experience in a laboratory, clinical or scientific research environment.
The preferred candidate will have prior experience in the area of cancer immunology and/or immunotherapy, prior experience with human in vitro models relevant to immunology, past experience with mouse models of cancer and cancer immunotherapy, and at least five years of laboratory experience. The candidate must possess effective communication skills both written and oral, the ability to operate in a dynamic, fast-paced and safety conscious environment, will work to meet deadlines while adapting to changing priorities, and a strong commitment to accountability for completion of objectives in accordance with established plans.
This is a grant-funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables is required.
